The Lagos State Government has explained that the Ikeja Computer Village was originally designated as a residential area, and that the proposed relocation to Katangua is intended to return the area to its original purpose. The government cited the high population density and limited space in the Computer Village as contributing factors to the decision.

This information was revealed by Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Advisor to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, during a visit to the Ikeja Computer Village. Babatunde emphasized that the area was always meant to be used for residential purposes, and that the government’s plans for relocation would help to revitalize the neighborhood.

The assessment of the Ikeja Computer Village was carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, in cooperation with the relevant law enforcement agencies and other government bodies. This assessment was used to inform the decision to relocate the Computer Village to Katangua.

Babatunde revealed further that the planned relocation to Abule Egba has been delayed due to various factors. Babatunde did not specify the reasons for the delay, but assured that the government was working to resolve the issues as soon as possible.
