The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), out of the 1,955,069 candidates who participated in the examination, which began on April 24, 2025.
In a statement released on Monday, JAMB disclosed that 75% of candidates scored below 200, while less than 1% achieved scores above 300. Specifically, 420,415 candidates scored above 200, with 4,756 scoring above 320 and 7,658 scoring between 300 and 319.
JAMB highlighted the performance of 40,247 underage candidates permitted to showcase their abilities, noting that only 467 (1.16%) met the threshold for exceptional ability. These candidates’ performances in the subsequent three stages are still under review.
The board also reported examination irregularities, with 97 candidates involved in infractions and 2,157 others under investigation for suspected malpractices. Additionally, 71,701 candidates were absent, and those with biometric challenges are being probed, with cleared candidates to be rescheduled for examination at designated centers.
Results for some candidates, including blind candidates and those in the JEOG group, are still being processed. JAMB announced that a press conference to release individual results and facilitate result checking will be held later this week.
