Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has criticized the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, stating that the state is currently “unfortunate” with its leadership.
Owoeye’s remarks come amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged misappropriation of a $20 million World Bank health grant under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
“I have been following the recent media drama of the Adeleke administration accusing former governor Oyetola of misappropriation of a $20 million World Bank health grant. It is disappointing to see the unnecessary circus the current regime has created against allegations that are baseless and unfounded,” Owoeye said.
He warned that the Adeleke administration’s approach to governance could discourage future grants and donor-assisted projects in Osun.
“What the Osun State government has done is to effectively shut the door against future grants and donor-assisted projects from development support institutions. Why is the governor always putting the cart before the horse? Couldn’t he have waited till the completion of the investigation by the anti-graft agencies before casting aspersions on officials of the last administration who served their state diligently?” he questioned.
Owoeye also recalled Governor Adeleke’s initial claims that Osun was in debt to the tune of over N400 billion, an assertion he said was later contradicted by figures from the Debt Management Office (DMO).
On the political landscape in Osun, the former Speaker predicted a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu in future elections, citing the strong leadership of Oyetola and the increasing strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“Oyetola’s consistent food distribution programme during all festive periods provides succour to the people of Osun, his statewide Medical Outreach, facilitation of employment for the youths in various MDAs, and FG projects in Osun are some of the impacts that stand him out,” he added.
