The Vice-Chancellor and Management of Osun State University has declared the closure of the institution on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, following a devastating motor accident that claimed the lives of five students.
In a statement released by the Registrar, Mrs. OgunTunde Atinuke A., the Vice-Chancellor expressed profound sorrow, stating, “We must mourn and honour the memories of our dear students and support one another during this difficult time.” All academic and administrative activities have been suspended until Wednesday, March 26, 2025, to allow students and staff to grieve and pay their respects.
The university identified the deceased students as Olagbemide Dotun, Suleiman Farouq Adedayo, Ogundare Pelumi, Ogundare Elijah, and Olawuyi Mary, and extended heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones. The Registrar wrote, “May they find strength and solace in this moment of grief.”
Additionally, the inaugural lecture initially scheduled for March 25 has been postponed to Wednesday, March 26, at 2:00 PM. The university administration has requested understanding from the community during these challenging times.

UNIVERSITY CLOSURE TO MOURN OUR DEPARTED STUDENTS
The Vice-Chancellor and Management, with profound sorrow hereby announce the closure of the university on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, to mourn five of our students who tragically lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident while returning to their homes after the Harmattan Semester examinations.
The Vice-Chancellor has directed that all academic and administrative activities be put on hold until Wednesday, March 26, 2025. We must mourn and honour the memories of our dear students and support one another during this difficult time:
- Olagbemide Dotun, -200 level Software Engineering
- Suleiman Farouq Adedayo- 400 level Law
- Ogundare Pelumi – 300-level Public Health
- Ogundare Elijah -100 level Mechanical Engineering
