Osun State House Of Reps Speaker Challenges Police Officers Over Extortion On Public Road

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Prince Adewale Egbedun, was seen in a video that is now going viral as he challenged police officers who were caught extorting money from people who are going and coming back from their various businesses.

The incident was said to have took place earlier today, Friday, along Iwo Osogbo expressway, Osun State.

In the video, he was seen challenging the police officers, asking people to take pictures and record a video of them. As this was going on, the policemen were seen struggling to vacate the scene.

According to an Eyewitnesses, the group of police officers were only after young individuals on the road. They ask them to come down from their vehicle while they forcefully demand money from them.

Fortunately, the Speaker of Osun State happened to be passing by and noticed the suspicious behavior of the officers. Reacting swiftly, the Speaker intervened and confronted the corrupt policemen to return back the money to the youth immediately.

Reacting to the incident, Force Public Relation Officer, Force Headquarter, Abuja, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi tweeted, “The Commissioner of Police Osun State, CP Kehinde Longe, has acted on this. The officers have been arrested, and necessary action would be taken. The PPRO osun has been ordered to update us on the actions taken. We have zero tolerance for extortion and corruption in general.”

“So, no officer should use IGPs name to extort. No way. We have sent out IGP’S monitoring squad to arrest any erring officer, not only the Police, but other law enforcement agents who dwell in corruption and inappropriate behaviours.”

“This is the original tradition, and we are reverting back to it. We need to sanitise our system and work with the government at all levels to inject sanity and decency into our system in all ramifications.”
