Osun Amotekun Commander Reportedly Survives Gun Attack in Osogbo

The Commander of the Osun State Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, has survived a gun attack by armed men in Osogbo.

According to Amotekun OSUN on its official Facebook page, the incident happened late Monday night around 10:05 PM along Ikirun Road, near Kobo, beside Charity Hotel.

Omoyele was said to be driving home alone after closing from work at the Amotekun headquarters when gunmen suddenly blocked his car and opened fire.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Omoyele said the attackers wore masks and drove in another vehicle that pulled up beside his.

“I was driving home when their car came close to mine, and they started shooting. Bullets hit my car everywhere. I didn’t stop; I just kept driving even though I was hit. That’s how I escaped,” he said.

Medical sources confirmed that Omoyele sustained gunshot wounds but is now in stable condition and receiving treatment under tight security at an undisclosed hospital.

In a worrying twist, about 15 armed and masked men reportedly invaded his house later that same night. Witnesses said the attackers came in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, suggesting that the operation was well planned.

The matter has been reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and investigations are ongoing. So far, no one or group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motive remains unknown.

Security experts have described the incident as a serious threat to public safety.

“If someone in charge of a state security outfit can be attacked like this, it shows how deep insecurity has become,” said one security analyst.

Residents of Osun State are being urged to stay alert and report any suspicious movements or persons to nearby security agencies. Community leaders and rights groups have also called for a full investigation into both the attack and the later invasion of Omoyele’s home.
