A final-year student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, has been suspended for two semesters following a public altercation involving the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President.
Mr. Kabiru Toheeb Omotoyosi, a 500-level student of Animal Production in the Faculty of Agricultural Production and Renewable Resources, was issued a suspension letter dated April 10, 2025.
The disciplinary action stems from an alleged defamatory statement made by Omotoyosi against the SUG President, Mr. Oluwaseun Adeyemi Ogunmakinju, popularly known as Enzaim, and another student identified as Filomenal Patience Michael.
According to reports, Omotoyosi’s comments—which were posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter)—sparked controversy within the student community. He had used the platform to call on the Ogun State Government and concerned Nigerians to intervene in what he described as “injustice” over his suspension.
The university has not released an official statement detailing the specific content of the alleged defamatory publication.
In his post, Omotoyosi pleaded for solidarity, urging stakeholders to amplify his voice and challenge what he perceives as a misuse of power within the student union.
The incident has stirred debates on student rights, freedom of expression, and the role of unionism on campus, with many observers calling for a thorough and transparent review of the disciplinary process.
As of the time of this report, efforts to reach the university’s management and the SUG President for comments have been unsuccessful.
