The Obidients Movement, a pro-Peter Obi support group, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to forgo his 2027 presidential ambition and back former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as the preferred candidate.
According to INFORMATION NIGERIA, the appeal was made on Saturday during a mega rally held in Umuahia, Abia State, to celebrate Peter Obi’s 64th birthday.
Speaking to journalists at the event, Chibuzor Obiesili, Chairman of the Organising Committee, praised Atiku and other opposition figures for their efforts in forming a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election.
Obiesili emphasized that Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, possesses the national credibility and mass appeal required to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
“We commend those working on the coalition against the APC,” he said. “However, we strongly urge that Peter Obi be adopted as the consensus candidate. He has the trust of the people and can deliver the change Nigerians are yearning for.”
Obiesili further appealed directly to Atiku, saying, “Atiku Abubakar has contributed immensely to Nigeria’s democratic journey. But perhaps the greatest gift he can give the nation now is to support Obi to secure the ADC presidential ticket in 2027. That selfless act could be the turning point for Nigeria.”
