Nigerians will soon pay more for driver’s licenses and vehicle number plates following a price hike approved by the Joint Tax Board (JTB), the apex body for revenue authorities in Nigeria.
The new rates, set to take effect on Sunday, June 8, 2025, were announced in a recent advertorial published in a national daily.
The price adjustment, attributed to enhanced security features and rising production costs, affects both driver’s licenses and various categories of number plates. The JTB has urged relevant government agencies, motor vehicle licensing authorities, and the public to comply with the new pricing structure.
New Driver’s License Fees
Motor vehicle driver’s license: N15,000 (3 years), N21,000 (5 years)
Tricycle/motorcycle driver’s license: N7,000 (3 years), N11,000 (5 years)
New Number Plate Fees
Standard private/commercial vehicle: N30,000
Articulated vehicle: N90,000
Dealer vehicle: N100,000
Out-of-series vehicle: N150,000
Fancy vehicle: N400,000
Government standard vehicle: N80,000
Government fancy vehicle: N120,000
Motorcycle: N12,000
Fancy motorcycle: N50,000
Government standard motorcycle: N20,000
Government fancy motorcycle: N50,000
The JTB noted that detailed information on the price changes is available on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) website (www.frsc.gov.ng) (www.frsc.gov.ng) and at State Internal Revenue Service offices or Motor Vehicle Administration Authorities nationwide.
Authorities have called for swift compliance as the new rates aim to reflect the improved quality and security of licensing materials.
