Uniting against the economic injustices inflicted by President Tinubu’s neoliberal policies, a coalition of civil society groups – including the Take It Back Movement, Joint Action Front (JAF), African Action Congress (AAC), Education Right Campaign, and others – have declared a nationwide Protest tagged #WeAreHungry and #June12Protest.
The demonstration, which will take place on a public holiday commemorating Democracy Day, aims to bring attention to the increasing suffering of Nigerians under Tinubu’s administration, where hunger and inflation have become rampant and destructive forces.
The coalition’s announced protest on June 12 is also being organized in response to the shortcomings of President Bola Tinubu’s neoliberal policies, which have led to spiraling inflation and widespread suffering, trapping many Nigerians in a vicious cycle of poverty.
According to the coalition, the government’s unbridled pursuit of economic growth at all costs has resulted in a significant decline in the standard of living for the majority of the population.

The coalition has further asserted that President Tinubu’s government has abandoned its responsibility to provide a social safety net, instead prioritizing the interests of foreign investors and wealthy elites over those of ordinary Nigerians.
In their view, these neoliberal policies have exacerbated social and economic inequalities, widening the gulf between the rich and the poor. The organizers of the June 12 protest seek to bring attention to these injustices and to push for a new direction in national policymaking, one that prioritizes the needs and well-being of the people.
In preparation for the #WeAreHungry and #June12Protest, the various civil society groups leading the movement have mobilized and distributed banners and announced convergence points in all 36 states of Nigeria.
As this report is being filed, the call to action issued by the civil society groups has ignited a national conversation on social media. With the hashtags #WeAreHungry and #June12Protest rapidly gaining traction on Twitter, it appears that the urgency and desperation felt by many Nigerians has reached a tipping point, leading to a growing online community of individuals united in their desire for change.
