Nigerian Youths Prioritize Celebrity Feuds Over Political Change, Says Disappointed Activist

Human rights activist and Political Commentator Rotimi Dawodu has expressed disappointment in Nigerian youths for prioritizing celebrity feuds over political activism.

He said while some youths are risking their safety to protest against bad governance in Nigeria, many others seem more interested in online drama.

He argued that it is disheartening to see young Nigerians engaging in trivial discussions about Davido VS Wizkid, Bobyrisky, and VerydarkMan instead of actively confronting the pressing issues affecting their country, such as hunger and other socioeconomic struggles.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Wednesday morning, he wrote, “Nigerian youths still have time to do Davido vs Wizkid and Bobyrisky vs VerydarkBlack Man. It seems the hardship hasn’t hit them hard enough, Meanwhile some other youths are dying and getting beat up protesting…. Nigeria isn’t the way it is by coincidence. SHAME ON YOU GUYS!”

Earlier report had revealed how the Nigerian police operatives attacked some Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, who on Tuesday morning joined the #FearlessInOctober protest against hardships and poverty.

The policemen were seen shooting teargas canisters and ammunition at the protesters who were peacefully demonstrating against the hardship that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration has unleashed on them.

Videos emerged of the protesters scampering for safety in areas believed to be Jabi, Utako environs of the FCT.

Meanwhile, despite widespread complaints about poverty and hunger, many Nigerians hesitate to join protests due to fear of government repression. Those who have participated believe that change is possible if more people overcome their fears and join the movement. However, some youths appear reluctant to participate, raising concerns about their readiness to effect meaningful change.
