Fuel scarcity is emerging in Lagos and other regions of the country as private depot owners raise the ex-depot price of petrol from N630 to a staggering N720 per litre.
The situation is rapidly deteriorating in Lagos, Ogun, and other states, where many filling stations have run out of stock, refusing to purchase the high-priced fuel from private depots. The lack of supply and skyrocketing prices are causing widespread frustration and fears of an impending fuel crisis, disrupting daily life and commerce in the country.
Amid the worsening fuel scarcity in Nigeria, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria’s (IPMAN) National Vice President, Hammed Fashola, voiced his concerns in an interview on Sunday.
According to Fashola, many filling stations have been forced to close their doors due to a severe shortage of petrol in their tanks. He placed the onus on the sole importer of petrol, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), to provide Nigerians with a clear explanation regarding the ongoing fuel scarcity crisis and the limited product availability.
