Mass Failure as Over 9,000 Civil Servants Fail Promotion Exam

The 2022 Federal Civil Service Promotion examinations saw over 9,000 civil servants failing, as revealed in a obtained list from the Federal Civil Service Commission. Approximately 13,000 civil servants participated in the examination across 69 Computer Based Test centres, including candidates from the core civil service, the Nigeria Police, and other para-military and specialised agencies.

The letter containing the list of successful civil servants was dated November 30, 2023, and was sent from the Federal Civil Service Commission, with the reference FC.6241/S.35/Vol.xi/ T12/268. Only 3,851 civil servants out of the over 13,000 who sat the promotion examination managed to pass, according to the attached list.

The list also detailed the promotions of various officers to higher posts, such as from Assistant Chief Administrative Officer to Chief Administrative Officer, from Principal Administrative Officer to Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, and from Senior Administrative Officer to Principal Administrative Officer, among others.

Civil servants were informed through a letter of acknowledgment by the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office of the OHCSF, Marcus Ogunbiyi, about the 2023 promotion exercise scheduled for civil servants in the pool of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation from December 11, 2023, to December 16, 2023.
