Lounge Owner in Osogbo Accuses Police Officers of Beating Him With Machete

The Director of Chillaz Zone Lounge & Grillz, Mr. Ayomide Adekunle has accused some officers of the Osun State Police Command of violently attacking him over a misunderstanding with a customer.

Mr. Adekunle said the officers, attached to the Anti-Robbery section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Osogbo, stormed his lounge and beat him up with machetes and sticks.

He claimed that the attack was led by one Mr. Adedokun Yusuf, the deputy to the Officer-in-Charge of the unit, who allegedly cut his back several times with a machete.

Narrating what happened, Adekunle explained that the incident started after a customer, who is said to be a police officer, came into the lounge to speak with his manager. Later, when he saw the same customer talking with some of his staff members, he intervened and asked them to disperse.

“I told the man this is my lounge, and if there is any issue, the manager will handle it. I didn’t want people gathering there,” Adekunle told Osogbo Updates.

According to him, the customer felt embarrassed and threatened to “embarrass him back.” About 20 minutes later, a group of men reportedly arrived in a private car, one of them wearing a bulletproof vest while others were in plain clothes.

“The customer pointed at me and said I was the one,” Adekunle said. “They told me to sit on the floor inside my own lounge, but I refused. I told them if they wanted to arrest me, we should go to the station.”

He claimed that the men dragged him outside, punched him in the face, and forced him into their vehicle before taking him to the State CID office in Osogbo. There, he said, they began to beat him with machetes and wooden sticks.

Adekunle alleged that a female officer, identified as Officer Yussuf Amidat, was among those who assaulted him. He said he suffered serious injuries and had to receive medical treatment afterward.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command confirmed that the case is being investigated and that the officers involved have been questioned.

The incident has sparked outrage among Osogbo residents and business owners, who are demanding a transparent investigation and justice for Adekunle.
