Robin Kaye, the music supervisor celebrated for her decades-long contribution to American Idol, has been tragically killed alongside her husband, Marc Deluca, in what authorities have now confirmed is a homicide.
The incident occurred at their residence in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. The LAPD’s Valley Bureau is leading the investigation. As of Monday, a suspect has been arrested, although the motive behind the killings remains unclear.
Robin Kaye was a highly respected figure in the music and television industries. Her career spanned more than two decades, during which she served as the music supervisor on American Idol for 288 episodes between 2002 and 2023.
Her extensive resume also included work on major productions such as Miss USA, Miss Universe, the NAACP Image Awards, Lip Sync Battle, Hollywood Game Night, and The Dance Scene, among many others.
Kaye’s journey in the music world began in Nashville, where she worked with country legend Waylon Jennings. She later took on roles at MTM Records and Sound Management, before transitioning into music publishing and licensing at Universal and PolyGram Records.
In 2000, she launched her own company, SyncroniCity, managing artists such as Andrea Bocelli and Kenny Loggins, and later found her calling in music supervision for television.
In addition to her professional achievements, Kaye also served as Vice President of the Guild of Music Supervisors, a testament to her leadership and enduring impact in the industry.
Tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and friends across the entertainment world. Phil Gurin, CEO of The Gurin Company and a longtime collaborator, described her as “simply the best,” adding:
“She was a most trusted, valued, and important part of our team… with a positive attitude and infectious spirit. The entire community has lost a wonderful person.”
As the investigation continues, many in the industry are mourning not just the loss of a colleague, but of a trailblazer whose work helped define a generation of televised music entertainment.
