The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been thrown into fresh turmoil following the declaration by its Deputy National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala, that he is now the party’s Interim National Chairman.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Bala accused certain party leaders of engaging in what he described as “political hooliganism” and “a show of shame” that has dragged the party into disarray.
He alleged that the party’s structures had been illegally handed over to political outsiders, in clear violation of the ADC constitution.
Bala condemned the installation of what he termed “political strangers” into key positions, claiming that duly elected officials were unceremoniously displaced in a “poorly staged political drama.”
According to him, the actions of some senior figures who he did not name directly but alluded to amount to gross impunity and a blatant disregard for the party’s internal rules and democratic processes.
Bala warned that unless the alleged constitutional breaches are reversed, he would not hesitate to seek redress in court. He lamented the erosion of internal democracy within the ADC and insisted that the leadership transition must follow the procedures outlined in the party’s constitution.
Citing his position as the duly elected Deputy National Chairman, Bala argued that he is empowered to assume the role of Interim National Chairman in the event of a leadership vacuum.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take urgent note of the developments and ensure that due process is followed within the party.
