Frustrated by skyrocketing housing costs and steep agent fees, a group of Lagos residents took to the streets on Sunday to demand urgent reforms.
Videos circulating on X (formerly Twitter) captured the protesters driving through parts of the city in a vehicle adorned with a bold poster that read: “Enough is enough — we say no to overpriced house rents. We say no to housing agents. Agents of darkness.”
The protest shows growing public anger over the rising cost of accommodation in Lagos, where securing a home has become increasingly difficult. Residents blame not just landlords but also property agents, who often demand exorbitant commissions.
The demonstration has sparked widespread support online, with many Lagosians sharing their own housing struggles and calling for immediate government intervention to regulate rental practices in Africa’s most populous city.
