The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.
The restriction will be in effect from 3:00 am to 3:00 pm on the election day.
According to a statement issued by the Command, the restriction applies to all roads and waterways within Lagos State, as part of security measures to ensure a safe and credible electoral process.
Key Restrictions and Guidelines:
1. Total Ban on Vehicular Movement
All forms of vehicular movement are prohibited during the stated period, including those belonging to quasi-security outfits and state security agencies. No state-owned security outfit is permitted to participate in election security operations, in accordance with the Electoral Act.
2. Prohibition on Armed Escorts and Use of Sirens
Armed escorts and security details attached to individuals are barred from moving around on election day. The indiscriminate use of sirens and covered number plates is also strictly prohibited.
3. Exemptions
Only those offering essential services, such as emergency medical personnel and other critical responders, as well as duly accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), accredited media practitioners, and election observers will be allowed to move during the restriction period. These individuals must possess and display valid identification tags issued by LASIEC.
4. Identification Requirements
All security personnel, election officials, observers, and media workers must wear LASIEC-certified identification tags throughout the election process.
5. Security Advisory
The Command issued a stern warning to miscreants, thugs, and hoodlums to stay away from polling units, collation centers, and other designated electoral locations. Law enforcement officers have been deployed to ensure the integrity and peaceful conduct of the election.
