The Lagos State Government has issued a 48-hour eviction notice to squatters and illegal structure owners in the Gbagada-Bariga drainage channel area.
This move is aimed at eradicating unlawful settlements that could obstruct proper water flow, particularly in light of the ongoing rainy season. Property owners and residents in the affected area are urged to comply with the directive within the stipulated period, as the government plans to enforce the order.
Taking to his X page, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State made the announcement.
This revelation underscores the severity of the issue and serves as a driving force behind the eviction notice, which aims to alleviate potential flooding in the area. As Commissioner Wahab aptly noted, the degradation of the drainage system caused by illegal human activity is directly correlated to increased flooding risks during the rainy season.
