The Lagos State Government, LASG, has announced a partial closure along sections of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works carry out rehabilitation on damaged parts of the road.
According to a statement released on February 10, 2026, by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair work will cover the stretch between U-Turn Bus Stop and Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound traffic. The project is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and is expected to last four weeks, ending on March 11, 2026.
Osiyemi explained that the work would be carried out in two phases to reduce traffic disruption. The first phase, which will focus on Abeokuta-bound traffic from U-Turn Bus Stop inward Sango Tollgate, will run from February 11 to March 4, 2026. During this period, traffic from Lagos and Abule-Egba heading toward Abeokuta will be diverted to one side of the road, about 20 metres away from the construction area.
He stated that “rehabilitation will be carried out on one lane at a time,” adding that traffic would be moved to completed sections as work progresses. Motorists travelling toward Lagos are expected to continue enjoying free traffic flow during this phase.
The second phase will cover Lagos-bound traffic between Obadeyi Bus Stop and Ekoro Junction and will last for one week, from March 4 to March 11, 2026. Traffic heading toward Lagos will be diverted through half of the carriageway while construction continues, while vehicles travelling toward Abeokuta will move without interruption.
The state government assured residents that proper traffic management measures would be in place throughout the project. Authorities also advised motorists to plan their trips ahead, obey road signs, and cooperate with traffic officials.
“The Ministry appeals for the patience and understanding of the motoring public as these essential repairs are undertaken in the interest of all road users,” Osiyemi said.
