IBB Book Launch: Nigeria, Tribe and Ethnicity Is Never A Problem, Written by Obi Nna

THIS IS NOT A TRIBAL POST…

I am yet to recover from the trauma of IBB’s book launch, I don’t know how long it will take me.

I used to boast of how issues concerning Nigeria will never get to me anymore, I was lying to myself.

I didn’t read about, neither was I told of June 12, I knew my left from my right that year, even though I was just a street kid.

I was about the most intelligent among my peers, so we had a neighbor who was a journalist that worked with Nigerian Television Authority

I do not know his name till today, his son’s name is Anani, so all we called and knew him with, was Papa Anani.

Papa Anani came back with Newspapers every evening, and he gathered all the street kids in front of his house, and got me to read the papers out loud for everyone.

I was the newscaster because I was the kid who could read very well and clearly.

Papa Anani wanted the kids to be politically conscious, it was his grooming that got me to fall in love with Political Science and chose to study same over Law, which was what my father wanted.

I am a proud Political Scientist.

So I read a lot about June 12 to my peers, in front of Papa Anani’s house.

It’s nostalgic.

This could be why I am yet to come over IBB’s book launch, but permit me to say something I noticed in that book launch; and like I said, it is not a tribal post.

Yoruba people.

The person who undoubtedly won the best conducted election in the history of Nigeria, was a Yoruba man.

This Yoruba man passed away in detention and his offense was, asking for his mandate to be given him.

Fast-forward to the book launch hall.

The first Civilian president after this Yoruba man who passed because he won June 12, was a Yoruba man; he was in the book launch hall.

The person who had the guts to climb upon the pulpit to review that satanic booklet, was the last Vice president of Nigeria; a Yoruba pastor.

The person who I assume to be the Chief host and special guest of honor at that book launch, is the president of Nigeria; a Yoruba man who is married to a Yoruba pastor.

These three Yoruba men along with some other Yoruba men in that book launch hall, are some of the most powerful amongst the Nigerian political class, as it were.

But they contained themselves in one hall, laughing, dancing, chatting, eating, drinking, having fun over the unlawful detention and passing away of their brother, a Yoruba man; whose only offense was, asking for his mandate.

Yoruba men.

Now listen very clearly, if this thing was between Igbo people, the entire Nigeria will be full of Igbos don’t love themselves; Igbos are not united; Igbos can sell each other for money; that’s why Igbos cannot be president.

Listen very clearly, it’s a very big lie.

Igbos love themselves, Yorubas love themselves, Hausas love themselves; we all love ourselves.

This post is not a tribal post, because I can tell you categorically that, Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu were going to do the same thing if MKO Abiola was a Hausa/Fulani or an Igbo person.

This post is about the fact that I know Nigeria enough to tell you that, Tribe and Ethnicity is never our problem.

It’s about the fact that I know Nigeria enough to tell you that, our major problem is, those whom we put in positions of leadership, because in their leadership style, they care solely about themselves.

They will only sing tribal songs when it is time to use Tribe to share your votes; and sadly how you dance along.

You have only two choices, viz; to keep falling for it, or to stand up.

You know which of these two I wish for you.
