“I blocked everyone in Nollywood for 10 years to protect my marriage” – Opeyemi Aiyeola

Veteran Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has shed light on why she distanced herself from the Nigerian film industry for over a decade after getting married.

In an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Aiyeola revealed that she deliberately cut ties with her colleagues and blocked their contacts shortly after relocating abroad with her husband, Olayiwola Abdulwakilu.

According to her, the move was a conscious sacrifice aimed at safeguarding her marriage from the pressures and patterns that often plague celebrity relationships.

“I was off the scene for more than ten years, and I apologised to my fans,” she said. “I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s contact in the industry. Let’s appreciate our partners because many of them are the reason we make certain decisions. People often say entertainers don’t have stable homes, but they don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. I didn’t want my own marriage to become part of that narrative.”

Now a proud mother of two boys, the actress shared that she’s returned to the spotlight, ready to reignite her career and follow her personal dreams.

“I unblocked everyone when I decided to come back and focus on my career. I’ve made all the necessary sacrifices for my children—now, it’s time for me to rediscover myself and grow professionally.”
