Nollywood actress Abiola Adebayo has addressed the criticism and mockery that followed her public disclosure of her marital separation.
In a video that surfaced online on Tuesday night, the actress and podcaster spoke candidly about her experience, stressing that her decision to go public with the news was intentional.
According to Adebayo, she aimed to control the narrative and prevent the spread of misinformation regarding her private life.
She explained that the announcement was made with the knowledge and consent of her estranged husband, dispelling speculation that he was blindsided by the news. “The last time I shared about my marriage, it was so others wouldn’t distort my story,” she said, switching between English and Yoruba. “Yet, it was used against me. I informed my husband before posting—he knows who I truly am. Regardless of what people say, God will judge us all.”
Adebayo confirmed that the marriage officially ended in April 2024. Despite the separation, she stated that both she and her former partner are committed to co-parenting their son with mutual respect and maturity.
Acknowledging the disappointment of fans and well-wishers, Adebayo expressed sorrow over the marriage’s collapse but emphasized that her decision prioritized her safety and mental health. “It’s more important to stay alive and healthy to tell your own story,” she said.
She further appealed to the public for prayers, revealing that while she may seem cheerful in public appearances, she has endured emotional struggles behind the scenes. “I’m human too,” she reiterated, noting that the experience had taken a significant emotional toll.
Despite the challenges, the actress conveyed hope for healing and peace, and asked for empathy and understanding during this difficult time.
