Guinness World Records has officially recognised Nigerian chef Hilda Baci and food brand Gino Nigeria for cooking the largest ever serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an astonishing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz).
The confirmation was made public on Guinness World Records’ official Facebook page, where it announced: “Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) by Hilda Baci and Gino Nigeria.”
The feat, which has now been entered into the record books, was accomplished on September 13, 2025, after hours of intense cooking at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
Speaking to newsmen on Saturday, Hilda explained that the monumental task took about nine hours of fire, passion, and teamwork to accomplish. The logistics were equally remarkable, requiring nearly 1,200 kilograms of gas to prepare about 16,600 plates of rice, which were distributed to the public. She described the effort as food “served with joy, love, and community.”
Crowds gathered at the event to witness the spectacle as Hilda, wearing her trademark apron, led a team of cooks in stirring and dishing out the massive portions.
With this latest achievement, Hilda Baci further cements her status as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated chefs and cultural ambassadors.
