The Federal Government has clarified that it has not signed any binding agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this known in Abuja while addressing journalists on the sidelines of an event.
According to him, contrary to reports, the government has no scheduled meeting with ASUU today, though it has been engaging the union regularly on various issues affecting the tertiary education sector.
Speaking on the demands that led to ASUU’s recent warning strike, Alausa explained that he recently met with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, the Minister of Labour, and the Solicitor-General of the Federation.
The meeting, he said, produced a resolution and a draft agreement which is to be forwarded to ASUU.
He added that a committee has been set up to review the draft agreement before it is officially presented to the union for further deliberations and a final decision.
