Ex-UI Deputy VC Abducted In Ibadan

A former deputy vice chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Adigun Agbaje, has been kidnapped.

According to Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Agbaje, who is currently on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, was on his way to Ibadan at about 6pm on Friday when kidnappers blocked his way near Guru Maharaji village, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The kidnappers have contacted the family and are asking for N50 million as ransom.

FIJ reported that the kidnappers eliminated some policemen around the scene” before making away with their captives.

Agbaje is a professor of Political Science and one of the UI’s most respected products.

Recall that authorities of the Oyo State Police Command on Saturday declared an officer attached to the state police command was killed during the incident while one other was seriously injured.

The officers, on a tip off raced to the scene of the incident and engaged the suspected gunmen in a gun battle.
