As the clamor for protests builds among Nigerian youths, a seasoned voice of experience has stepped into the fray to appeal for calm and restraint.
Mayor Eshanekpe Israel, a respected youth leader, ex-military, and the mayor of Urhoboland, has urged his countrymen to postpone the scheduled demonstrations, which were set to begin on August 1 and continue until the 10th.
This was made known in a statement released from his Mayoral Palace in Ughelli, the historical centre of Urhoboland, Delta State.
Mayor Eshanekpe, also known as Akpodoro, acknowledged the nation’s economic struggles and reaffirmed his support for the Nigerian people in their hour of need. However, he also stated that it is important to comprehend the government’s policies.
Earlier reports have shone a light on the devastating impact of inflation and dwindling job opportunities on the everyday lives of Nigerians, many of whom find themselves reduced to begging just to put food on the table. These harsh realities, combined with the rising cost of living, have prompted calls for nationwide protests, slated for August, that will serve as a collective voice of anguish and demand for change.
