End of COVID-19? Good News as Scientists Finally Discover The Most Effective Drug on Virus
Day after day scientists globally are working to emerge victors of a COVID-19 vaccine.
While the novel coronavirus has continued to claim lives of more than a million people, there’s still no approved drug for the virus.
However, scientists have revealed several drugs still on trials that could be effective against the novel coronavirus. Among the drugs include dexamethasone and remdesivir which have so far proven effective against COVID-19.
Despite dexamothesone and remdesivir being effective on COVID-19 patients, doctors have revealed another drug that is the most effective against COVID-19.
The doctors from Boston Medical Center (BMC) who treated coronavirus patients with interleukin-6 (IL6ri) inhibitors such as tocilizumab and sarilumab (used to treat inflammatory conditions and autoimmune diseases like arthritis rheumatoid) revealed good news to the globe after the great findings on the efficacy of the drugs on COVID-19. They reveal that the drug is more effective as compared to dexamethasone and remdesivir as trials proove. Trials revealed that patients on interleukin-6 inhibitors had a lower mortality rate as compared to those on dexamethasone and remdesivir.

“In aggregate, IL6ri was associated with decreased morality rate, decreased rate of intubation, higher likelihood of being discharged alive and shorter length if stay,” wrote the researchers in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases.
Even though, the doctors reveal that more trials are still ongoing. The doctors therefore hope that the drug would help other doctors globally as they seek to find other solutions to reduce mortality rates.
“We hope these findings can help guide physicians as we seek solutions to reduce mortality, increase extubation, reduce the length of stay in hospital and have more patients discharged from the hospital alive,” study researcher Pranay Sinha said.
