The founder and pioneer chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has declared that former Senate President, David Mark, will lead a newly formed political coalition to victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the coalition at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Nwosu said the goal is to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and rescue Nigeria from what he described as a state of emergency.
According to him, the coalition unanimously appointed David Mark as Chairman and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as Secretary to steer the movement towards the Presidential Villa.
“We all decided to resign so that David Mark can paddle this canoe and get us to the Villa,” Nwosu stated.
He praised Aregbesola—an estranged ally of President Tinubu—as a man with an outstanding record of service, adding that Nigerians are eager for change and ready to embrace the coalition as a viable alternative.
“Nigeria has been in the ICU for too long. Lives are being lost every day. My appeal to the next generation of leaders is to move Nigeria from the ICU to global relevance. We can do it. We must support Mark and Aregbesola with our conduct and commitment,” he said.
Nwosu urged members of the coalition to remain resolute and unapologetic in their mission, stating, “Anyone who opposes what we have done today is not a true member of the ADC. We must be battle-ready. Challenges will come, but we are equipped to overcome them.”
The high-profile unveiling was attended by several political heavyweights, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, among others.
