David Hundeyin Criticises ‘Obidients’, Calls Them “Depressing” and “Delusional” Over Fake Narratives

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has criticised members of the Obidient Movement, describing many of them as “depressing” and “living in imaginary scenarios.”

Hundeyin made the comments in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he reacted to what he called the spread of fake or exaggerated political claims by some supporters of the movement.

In his tweet, Hundeyin referred to a comment made by a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who said that “Obidients create a scenario inside their heads and then start rejoicing over the imaginary scenario.”

Hundeyin admitted that the APC supporter “was unfortunately not wrong at all,” suggesting that some Obidients have been celebrating false or baseless stories online.

He went on to say:

“This is why I’ve been spending less time here of recent. You people are so depressing.”

His comment came as a reaction to a post by another X user, @firstladyship, who had urged Nigerians to “pay attention” to a supposed political move involving U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, a claim Hundeyin appeared to dismiss as another example of online misinformation.

Hundeyin’s post has sparked strong reactions across social media, with some users accusing him of attacking a movement that once supported him, while others praised him for calling out what they see as unrealistic political narratives.

The Obidient Movement, largely made up of supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has been active on social media since the 2023 elections, often engaging in heated political debates.

Hundeyin’s remarks, however, suggest growing frustration with parts of the group he once aligned with, as he distances himself from what he considers “fake narratives” and “wishful thinking” within the movement.
