At least 30 people have been confirmed dead following a brutal attack by suspected bandits on communities in Kebbi State’s Zuru Emirate.
The chairmen of Zuru and Danko-Wasagu Local Government Areas, Muhammad Gajere and Hussaini Bena, disclosed the death toll during a visit by the state’s Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, to Tadurga community on Friday. According to them, 16 residents were killed in Tadurga, while another 14 lost their lives in Kyebu and Yar-Kuka villages in the Waje District. Several others sustained injuries, and the assailants reportedly made away with livestock and valuable property.
Deputy Governor Tafida, who represented Governor Nasir Idris on the visit, condemned the attacks and assured residents that the government is intensifying efforts to prevent further violence. He revealed plans to block all known entry and exit points into the affected communities to stem the tide of future invasions by armed groups.
“The state government remains fully committed to safeguarding the lives and property of every citizen,” Tafida said, pledging immediate action to bolster security infrastructure across the vulnerable areas.
The traditional ruler of Dabai, Alhaji Suleman Dabai, lauded the government’s prompt response and credited recent security gains in the region to the leadership and commitment of Governor Idris.
As part of emergency relief efforts, the deputy governor also announced a financial support package of ₦50 million to aid victims and rebuild affected communities, with ₦25 million each allocated to Tadurga and Kyebu.
The latest attack adds to the growing list of deadly raids in Nigeria’s northwest, where armed groups have continued to terrorize rural populations despite ongoing military and police operations.
