ASUU Suspends Warning Strike, Gives Government One Month to Act

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has called off its warning strike and urged the Federal Government to quickly resolve all pending issues in the 2009 ASUU/FGN Agreement.

ASUU President, Dr. Chris Piwuna, announced this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Abuja after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council, NEC.

He said the suspension will take effect from midnight on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. However, he warned that ASUU will not hesitate to resume the strike if the government fails to meet its demands within one month.

Dr. Piwuna also appealed to Nigerians and education stakeholders to pressure the government to fast-track the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and settle other unresolved issues affecting university lecturers.
