Abba Kyari’s Co-defendants plead guilty to Drug Trafficking

Two co-defendants of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, on Monday pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges levelled against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that while Kyari and his police co-defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge, the 6th and 7th defendants, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, pleaded guilty.

Both Umeibe and Ezenwanne were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State.

On 14 February 2022, a video clip of Kyari negotiating the release of seized cocaine was released to the press by the NDLEA. Kyari was seen offering a $61,000 bribe in cash to an NDLEA agent.

Earlier, he had been embroiled in a fraud scandal involving Popular fraudster Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi is currently facing charges of money laundering in the United States.
