The Publicity Secretary of the African Action Congress, AAC, Mr. Rex Elanu, has publicly challenged a social media activist known as Mama Pee to an open debate over her stance on Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, the 2019 vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, who is now part of a coalition on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party that has recently attracted several prominent political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and other defecting lawmakers and stakeholders, positioning itself as an opposition bloc ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Elanu’s challenge, which has gained traction across social media platforms, comes in response to remarks by Mama Pee, who has repeatedly called out AAC’s National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore, over his criticisms of Peter Obi and broader issues within Nigeria’s opposition politics.
In a post seen by PurpleWorld Media, Elanu directly addressed Mama Pee, stating: “I challenge you to a public debate on this issue, that ‘Peter Obi is a fraud’. Please accept my challenge, I don’t mind if you choose the platform or channel for the public debate.”
The AAC spokesman further urged supporters to draw her attention to the challenge, adding in a follow-up comment: “Make una beg her, so that she no go pretend say she no see my challenge. I don’t want her to miss this opportunity to defend Peter Obi.”
The development comes amid growing online tension between supporters of different political movements, the Obidient movement widely associated with Peter Obi and the AAC, led by Sowore. Mama Pee, known for her vocal support for Obi, has in recent times criticised Sowore over his comments about the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
In one of her widely circulated remarks directed at Sowore, Mama Pee questioned his stance, suggesting that his criticism of Obi was misplaced and politically motivated.
The remark have contributed to an ongoing ideological clash between both camps, with debates centering on leadership credibility, political strategy, and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.
While Elanu frames his challenge as an opportunity for open engagement, observers note that such public confrontations reflect the increasingly digital and personality-driven nature of political discourse in the country.
As of the time of filing this report, Mama Pee has not publicly responded to the debate challenge.
