A 23-year-old Nigerian man, Kenneth Obinna, has reportedly been killed in Hamburg, Germany, in an incident that has sparked outrage and calls for justice within the African community.
According to sources, the attack occurred on the night of February 13, 2026, at a bus station in Hamburg where Obinna was waiting to board a bus home. He was said to have been attacked by five masked men.
A source familiar with the incident said, “Obinna Kenneth was a 23-year-old Nigerian who was killed in Hamburg, Germany, on Saturday night, February 13, 2026. If you know him, kindly alert his parents. It happened that five masked boys came and attacked him when he was at the Hamburg bus station waiting to take a bus back home.”
The source added that Obinna and his 24-year-old friend sustained serious head injuries during the assault and were rushed to the hospital, “They were taken to the hospital, where Obinna later died from his injuries,” the source said.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, and as of the time of filing this report. Authorities have not released an official statement detailing the motive behind the incident.
Meanwhile, members of the African Community in Hamburg have organized a solidarity gathering in honour of the deceased. The event featured candles, flowers, and photographs of Obinna, as participants called for justice and a thorough investigation.
Temitope Maberu-Fagunwa, a lecturer and Pan-Africanist who attended the gathering, strongly condemned the killing. In a statement shared on his social media pages, giving a different date, he wrote, “In the early hours of 7 February 2026, 24-year-old Kenneth Obinna was violently murdered in Hamburg by five yet-to-be-identified masked men. We strongly condemn this vile and senseless act of violence. We call on the police authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and urgent investigation, ensure that those responsible are brought to justice, and provide answers to the family and community.”
Using the hashtags #JusticeForKenneth and #HoldTheLine, he stressed the need for accountability and protection for members of the African community in Germany.
