The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State during the 2023 general election, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, on Monday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to LagisReporter, the closed-door meeting lasted between 2pm and 4pm.
Their meeting has sparked speculation about Jandor’s next political move following his recent resignation from the PDP.
Jandor, who was the PDP’s candidate in the last Lagos gubernatorial election, was previously a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the PDP to contest against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
However, his campaign was marred by internal party crises and what he described as a betrayal by the PDP’s national leadership on the eve of the election.
Despite his claims of being the strongest opposition candidate, Jandor finished third in the election with 62,449 votes. Governor Sanwo-Olu of the APC won with 762,134 votes, while Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour came second with 312,329 votes.
Earlier this month, Jandor officially resigned from the PDP, citing “indiscipline and anti-party activities” within the party. In his resignation letter, he criticized the leadership of the party, stating, “It has become evident that the leadership of the PDP, both at the national and state levels, has failed to uphold its principles.”
He also hinted at a possible move to another political platform, saying, “We will consult widely with everybody and then take the decision to collapse our structure into another platform. The major thing now is that we have left the PDP.”
While details of his meeting with Tinubu remain undisclosed, sources suggest it could be a reconciliation effort paving the way for Jandor’s return to the APC or a potential alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Before his visit to Tinubu, Jandor also met with former Heads of State, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, in Minna, Niger State. Additionally, he held discussions with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and senior officials of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), adding to the uncertainty about his next political move.
