Lawyer Warns Singer Atorise Over Threat To Cleric

Abuja-based lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has warned singer, Lanre Teriba Atorise, to desist from threatening a prophet, Israel Oladele Ogundipe aka Genesis, over his bashing of Reverend Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi of Love of Christ Generation Church, Cherubim and Seraphim, Lagos.

Ogundipe, who is the Shepherd-in-Charge of Celestial Church of Christ Global Genesis Parish, slammed Ajayi for abandoning him while he was in custody. Genesis was convicted and sentenced to jail for defrauding a London-based architect and converting her property for personal use in 2021.

Reacting to the public rebuke of the clergywoman, Atorise in a video on his Facebook page on Tuesday expressed his love for Ogundipe and disappointment at his public bashing of Ajayi. He went on to demand that Ogundipe apologises to her within 24 hours.

“Mama Ajayi doesn’t owe anyone anything. She is our benefactor. She prayed for you. I want to give him 24 hours to reverse what he has said. I will go to his church and fight him, one on one. You can’t talk to an elder like that,” he said.

Olajengbesi, who reacted to the face-off via his Facebook page on Wednesday cautioned Atorise about his outburst and threats.

He advised Atorise to apologise to Ogundipe within 24 hours. The lawyer said, “Lanre Teriba Atorise is advised to quickly caution himself with his nature of utterances in the dispute between Prophet Israel Ogundipe Genesis and Reverend Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi. He should control his emotions now, nothing under the law gives him the right to threaten anybody. A threat is a crime under the law. The law allows an aggrieved person to express himself or herself just like Genesis has done, but the law will jail a person who threatens another even if he has not carried out his threats. Atorise is well advised because if anything happens to Genesis negligently, Atorise has bought a case he did not pray for. The person to apologise in 24hours so far now is Atorise.”

FG Proposes To Borrow N11.3trn To Fund N19.76trn 2023 Budget

The Federal Government has proposed to borrow N11.3 trillion to fund the N19.76 trillion proposed 2023 budget.

Tribune reports that the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this while presenting the 2023 to 2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Policy Paper (FSP) to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Finance chaired by Honourable Abiodun Faleke.

According to her, the fiscal parameters for the year showed that oil production volume was pegged at 1.69mbpd, oil benchmark – $70 per barrel, exchange rate – N435.57/$; N8.501 trillion as total oil and gas revenue; N1.105 trillion as derivation; N7.396 trillion as total oil and gas revenue after derivation; deductions – N3.538 trillion while other federally funded upstream projects pegged at N3.432 trillion.

The minister presented two scenarios of budget parameters on fuel subsidy estimated at N6.72 trillion for full year 2023 (business-as-usual scenario) as well as possible provision of N3.36 trillion for mid-year 2023 (reform scenario).

The lawmakers, however, expressed grave concerns over the rationale behind the spike in the fiscal deficit pegged at N11.30 trillion for 2023 against N7.35 trillion fiscal deficits for 2022.

While speaking on the overview of the Federal Government’s revenue for 2023 to 2025, the minister said

“In the first scenario, the 2023 Federal Government revenue is projected at N6.34 trillion, out of which only N373.17 billion or 5.9 percent comes from oil-related sources. The balance of N5.97 trillion is to be earned from non-oil sources.

In the second scenario, in addition to subsidy reform, this scenario assumes an aggressive implementation of cost-to-income limits of GOEs. With these, the 2023 Federal Government revenue is projected at N8.46 trillion (15.1 percent or N1.51 trillion less than the 2022 budget) but N2.12 trillion more than scenario one.”

Stolen Crude Oil Found In Churches, Mosques – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has accused religious leaders, security agencies, and even some NNPC staff of the theft of the nation’s crude oil.

The NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Kyari said this during the 49th session of the weekly ministerial brief at the State House in Abuja, stressing that oil theft is largely carried out by Nigerians.

Kyari disclosed that the stolen products, pipelines are found mostly in churches and mosques, Channels Tv reported.

“When a fire outbreak happened in one of our pipelines, we discovered that some of the pipelines were actually connected to individual’s homes. And not only that, and with all sensitivity to our religious beliefs, you know, some of the pipelines and some of the products that we found, are actually in churches and in mosques,” Kyari said.

“This means that everybody is involved. There’s no way you will take products, bring them in trucks in populated neighborhoods, load them, and leave without everybody else knowing about it. Everybody includes members of the community, members of the religious leaders and also and most likely government officials of all natures, including security agencies personnel.”

Kyari revealed that vandalism has led to the shut down of the entire network of pipelines for petroleum products distribution in Nigeria.

The NNPC Boss mentioned that a national reserve company will be established to manage the pipelines on a commercial basis to efficiently put them to use for the distribution of products across the country.

74-year-old Kogi Man Marries For First Time, Say It Is Destiny

For 74-year-old Mallam Muhammad Awal, it was destined that he would be married to his now wife, 45-year-old divorcee, Mallama Rahmat Muhammad this late and that no one can overcome what the Almighty has designed in their lives.

Little wonder a mammoth crowd comprising the young and the old, male and female attended the wedding solemnization which took place on Sunday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The crowd braved the early morning downpour to be at the occasion which Islamic clerics in the State officiated.

Speaking to TheNewsaguru on why he had stayed this late before getting married, the septuagenarian said he had given up on marriage before he found Malama Rahmat.

To him, despite encouragement from family, friends and even some Islamic teachers that he should be brave and approach a lady he liked for marriage, he said his lack of financial capacity had held him back several times.

“I have always been afraid I might fail in my duty of care to a spouse if I married and it is something I fear and don’t want to joke with.
“I am also afraid of separation from my spouse. I know if I fail to take care of her, she might either leave me or cheat on me with another man, which I would not like. So, to avoid all of that, I dismissed the idea of marriage altogether. But now, Allah has made this a reality.”
On whether he has ever approached a woman to proposition marriage before, “I have. Many. This was when i was much younger. Many of them looked down on me, mostly because of my financial status. But I thank God it is in the past now.”
Asked whether he would have long been married had his financial situation been different, he replied in the affirmative, even as he added that if God had designed it differently, it would still have not been possible.

On what attracted him to his new wife and whether he would sire children with her, he said, “Apart from the fact that she is beautiful, she is also down-to-earth, understanding, religious and rooted in the marital institution.
“Only Allah knows if we are going to have children. You never know what the Almighty can do. It is not in our hands, but His hands.”
In her reaction, the new wife also admitted that it was destined that they would end up as a couple and prayed Allah to accept their wishes towards each other.
On her choice of Mallam Awal, “Why not him? she retorted. Allah has a reason for bringing us together and my prayers is for him to bless us and give us peace and understanding in our home.”
The clerics who officiated the wedding ceremony, prayed Allah to grant the couple peaceful home and blessed children.

Bandits Kidnap Senior Police Intelligence Officers On Abuja Highway

The officers were seized while on a reconnaissance mission in Kogi, where violent insurgents have claimed responsibility for killings and abductions in recent weeks.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali and Bandits
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali and Bandits
Armed bandits have abducted two senior police intelligence officers who were travelling along the highway between Abuja and Kogi during the week, Peoples Gazette’s sources said.

The officers were on a critical investigation assignment to Kogi when they were seized by bandits on August 23, but the police leadership hushed the crisis to avoid another public agitation over the country’s insecurity. A senior police chief said officers are now worried about the lives of their colleagues, adding that Inspector-General Usman Baba Alkali did not seem to appreciate the urgency of the matter.

“The IGP is only concerned about the matter getting to the public,” a police chief said under anonymity to avoid administrative backlash for unauthorised disclosure to reporters. “We cannot wait until something worse happens to colleagues before exposing this dangerous situation.”

The Gazette was informed by another officer familiar with the police’s management of the situation that the assailants had reached out with a demand for ransom.

“The bandits are demanding N30 million,” the officer said under assurances that their identity won’t be disclosed.

The officers, who were identified to The Gazette as police superintendent Francis Yisa and assistant superintendent John Kefas, were on a reconnaissance mission in Kogi, where violent insurgents have claimed responsibility for killings and abductions in recent weeks. At least two four bomb explosions have occurred in the state since June.

Mr Alkali declined calls to his mobile phone seeking comment Saturday afternoon. A spokesman for the police did not immediately answer calls to his line.

The development comes less than a month after 10 police officers were abducted in Kogi. They were on their way back to Nasarawa from an election assignment in Osun when the bandits struck on the highway, leaving them stranded for hours until they were rescued.Bandits kidnap senior police intelligence officers on Abuja highway.
